Shrine at Odero Lal (Uderolal)

Est. 1684
Main Bazar, Odero Lal Village,Sub-District (Taluka) Bhit Shah, Matiari District,Sindh, Postal Code 70110, Pakistan.

The Shrine at Odero Lal is a magnificent 17th-century architectural marvel that stands as Pakistan’s ultimate symbol of interfaith harmony, serving as a rare shared holy space designed specifically for two distinct religious communities at the exact same time [lines 10-11]. Built like a fortified complex, the entire heritage site is enclosed by high brick walls and accessed through a grand Mughal-style gateway that leads into a perfectly divided compound. One section houses the Sufi Dargah, which is maintained by Muslim caretakers who revere the saint as Sheikh Tahir, featuring classic Sindh-Islamic architecture with a large white dome, elegant arches, and vibrant blue-and-white Hala glazed tiles. The adjacent section houses the Hindu Mandir, where Hindu priests maintain a traditional temple sanctum dedicated to the same saint under the name Jhulelal, keeping an eternal flame burning in his honour. At the literal and spiritual center of the courtyard sits an ancient water well, acting as the universal centerpiece where both communities gather to draw water and offer prayers, since the saint is deeply tied to the sacred element of the Indus River. The cultural atmosphere inside the site remains deeply peaceful and inclusive, allowing visitors to witness Hindu pilgrims performing lamp rituals and singing hymns on one side while Muslim devotees distribute free food and perform Sufi chants on the other. This unique sanctuary stands as one of the very few places in the world where the Islamic call to prayer and the ringing of temple bells harmoniously resonate under the exact same roof.
